5 Things To Know About Windshield Repair

by Herman Mills

As a car owner, eventually, you may find yourself in need of windshield repair. To ensure that you are prepared for the repairs and take it seriously, you should know these five things about windshield repair:

  1. Your Windshield Really Is Important for Safety: First off, you should know that windshields really are important for safety. Even a small chip in the windshield can compromise your safety. A damaged windshield not only impairs your vision of the road, but if your airbags are deployed in an auto accident, they won't have the backing of the windshield to stop them. The airbags deploy with such force that if there is a small crack in the windshield, the airbags can cause that chip to expand so much that the entire windshield breaks in the accident, which leads to more potential injuries.
  2. Don't Plan to be Anywhere: When you schedule for windshield repair, it's important that you do not plan on being anywhere that day because you might have to wait some time before you can drive your vehicle. This all depends on what the windshield repair professionals use to make the repairs. Some of these products will require a certain amount of time to set in. For this reason, you should also plan for someone to drive you to and from the shop.
  3. Ask About Repair Time:  On top of the time that you need to wait for the repairs to set in, you should also ask about the time it will take for the repairs to actually get done. They will need to actually inspect the damage to determine. This will then give you a better idea of the amount of time that you will be without a car while the repairs are taking place.
  4. Avoid High Pressure Car Washes:  After having your windshield repaired, you should avoid high pressure car washes, which can cause the cracking to continue to expand even after it was repaired. You should wait at least 24 hours, although it may be best to wait even longer.
  5. Keep Window Cracked: Keeping a window cracked is also ideal when within the first 24 hours of having the repairs done because it prevents air pressure from building in the car. This pressure can also cause tension on the freshly repaired crack.

When you know these five things, you can see why windshield repair is important and what you can do to ensure that it is successful.
